If you've visited Bowhunting.Net, you have seen several postings of everyday hunters with trophies killed while using HOT TRAILS ® SCENTED HUNTING CANDLES.  I started making candles for hunting for myself in 1989, and began selling them in 1991.  I believed then as I do now, HOT TRAILS® works far superior to any scent product on the market today.  I'm writing this article at the request of others, to inform you, the public, as to why HOT TRAILS® is superior.

Liquid scents are mostly water base and while they are good, they just don't last very long.  Why is this?  Water evaporates when exposed to sun, and wind.  Water also freezes when exposed to temperatures around 32 degrees.  So when is a liquid scent the strongest?

It is strongest when you first pour it out.  When do you usually see deer?  Not when you first get to your stand, but usually hours later after your scent has dissipated and the woods have quieted down. HOT TRAILS® candles will burn for up to 5 hours.  And while they are burning, a constant flow of scent is being released into the air.  All this scent is being carried in the wind and we have seen deer smell it out to 500 yard and more.  Can you imagine getting to your stand at 2 o?clock in the afternoon, lighting your candle, and still having it burn at 6 o?clock in the evening?  For 4 hours you have been bombarding bedding areas, scrapes, staging areas, or game trails with the same consistent, hot, heated scent.  Its like fishing, you have to have your bait in the water to catch something. HOT TRAILS® scent is out in the woods waiting for game to come along and smell it.  When they do smell it, they have a trail of scent to follow back to its source. 

 Other advantages to using HOT TRAILS® are: 1) It is a hot scent, more like the scent off of a live animal.  Cold scents do not project themselves like a hot scent does. An example:  a cold cup of coffee which you have to bend over to get any smell at all, compared to a hot steaming cup which you can smell all over the kitchen. 2)  Use the wind to your advantage.  Since all the scent is being blown downwind of you, strategically place the candle upwind of places where you think the deer are, or will be during your hunt.  HOT TRAILS® is not magic; it does not make deer appear from nowhere.
